Last week Google announced that it would be dropping its own custom operating system in favour of Debian Linux for its SAAS compute engine - a move roughly timed to coincide with the release of the latest version of Debian, 7.0. The compute engine is used by customers of Google App Engine; a similar offering to Amazon’s AWS and Microsoft’s Azure, to name but two.

Tablets - Just what the doctor ordered
"An Apple a day, keeps the doctor away" goes the old saying. And when people think Tablet PCs, the iPad is still one of the most revered solutions available. However, it may be that, in order to remove your mobile access headache, there's a better tablet for the job.

Siebel kick out has wider Cloud CRM ImplicationsAn enterprise business ditching its old CRM system for another vendor is rarely dramatic news for the wider business world. How the US Patriot Act can impact on European cloud dataHow does it affect your data? Most firms are now using cloud computing in one format or another, but one area cloud customers aren’t closely monitoring is the impact of legislation on company data stored in the cloud. According to a V3 reader survey, 80 per cent of firms are unaware of data protection law changes and their effect on data stored outside of the EU. The US has also rolled out its own law, the Patriot Act, which gives the government the right to access sensitive data, meaning an extra complexity for UK firms choosing US cloud partners. |
