Throughout the month of Movember, sales team members Joe Bushnell and Mike Gee will be joining millions of men world wide who are growing a Charity Related Moustache as part of the Movember movement.
Under the label of Mo Bro's (Moustache Brothers) these courageous men have donated their faces to be promotional venues for the raising of both awareness and money for cancers affecting men. Funds raised in the UK, by Movember members, support the number one and two male specific cancers - prostate and testicular cancer.Funds raised are directed to The Protate Cancer Charity and the Institute of Cancer Research.
"There's a lot of work being done to raise awareness and research around breast cancer," says Mike, "but you don't hear so much about men's cancers." He goes on to explain that "it's my first year joining in, having recently had a close family member diagnosed with prostate cancer. So it made me all the more determined to join in with the Movember cause to help raise awareness of these little-discussed cancers, as well as hopefully some money into the bargain to aid research into beating the illnesses."
In the last 8 years, since its inception, Movember has spread from being an Australian to a global movement, raising more than £106 million so far. Last year, the UK members raised an impressive £11.7m.
Big steps have been taken towards changing attitudes and habits relating to men’s health around the world but there is still much to be done to catch up with the women’s health movement. Via the moustache, Movember aims to fulfil its vision of having an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health, by continuing to spark conversation and spread awareness of men’s health each year.
Throughout history there have been many famous moustache wearers, prepared to stand up and be identified by their facial attributes. Albert Einstein, Salvador Dali, Adolf Hitler, Ned Flanders would not be immediately recognisable without their trademark 'taches.
Mike and Joe are not trying to single-handedly make as big a global impact as these individuals, but hope that by their selfless actions they will be able to make a difference to those affected.
