Last week Google announced that it would be dropping its own custom operating system in favour of Debian Linux for its SAAS compute engine - a move roughly timed to coincide with the release of the latest version of Debian, 7.0. The compute engine is used by customers of Google App Engine; a similar offering to Amazon’s AWS and Microsoft’s Azure, to name but two.
